The most common encounter most citizens have with our criminal court system follows their receipt of a traffic citation issued to them by a uniformed law enforcement officer who has pulled them over with a blue light and/or siren. Although many such motor vehicle offenses are waivable ( that is they can be paid off without going to court), there are enough collateral consequences that it is important to seek legal advice from an competent counsel before taking any such action. Specifically, consequences may include the assessment of safe driver points against one's license, automobile insurance surcharges and loss of driving privilege. Many citizens are content to accept whatever advice the officer gives them. However well intended, because the officer does not know your driving history, such advice may not be helpful, and may, in fact, result in one of the aforementioned problems. The Law Office of Charles L. Morgan, Jr. prides itself in giving, competent legal advice in these and other more complicated situations. Many of these cases can be handled over the telephone, and through the mail, without the necessity for either an office visit or a court appearance. Occasionally, there is little that can be done, and merely paying off the citation is sufficient. Morgan will be able to advise you into which category you fall. Please contact this office should you receive a traffic citation, or complete the free evaluation form.
