Following graduation from law school, Mr. Morgan served as an Assistant District Attorney for the 22nd Prosecutorial District in Lexington, North Carolina for one year. Moving back to his hometown of Charlotte, he served as a Mecklenburg County Assistant Public Defender for three years, after a short period in private practice. Morgan later joined a medium-sized multi-state general practice law firm, where he was rapidly named partner and managed all of the criminal cases for the firm. Four years later, he struck out on his own, and has owned a practice with one or two associates since 1989. 

He has represented clients on state charges in 16 of North Carolina's 100 counties, but primarily practices in his home county of Mecklenburg. In addition, he has represented clients on state charges "pro hac vice" in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. In addition to representing clients in the federal courts of the middle (Greensboro) and Western (Asheville, Charlotte and Statesville) Federal District Courts, he has represented numerous clients before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia.

 Additionally, he has successfully represented numerous clients before both the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the North Carolina Supreme Court. He has also represented clients in the Federal Courts of Michigan, South Carolina and West Virginia.

He has extensive experience in Federal Court, representing clients on charges ranging from bank fraud, bank robbery, drug conspiracy, illegal importation, car jacking and internet pornography offenses, money laundering, assorted tax cases, among others. 

In State Court, he represents clients on charges ranging from speeding, DWI and other traffic offenses to murder,  and all things in between. In his career, Morgan has represented more than two dozen persons charged with first degree murder, at least half a dozen of which have been capital murder cases.
